So I flew to SF for my lunch with Misako. It was nice indeed, but the means of transportation is always craptastic. Oh god I hate flying. The flight left IAD 8AM, connecting flight in LAS to SFO, arriving at 1:40PM. I always make sure to have aisle seat. So I had confirmed aisle seat for days. I get into the plane and I have 2 REALLY FAT women on each end of the seat. What the hell? Why am I not aisle? I didn't want to make a scene, because well I don't want to make the REALLY FAT women unconfortable. And why oh god were the 2 REALLY FAT women on each end leaving only the middle seat empty? Anyways I sit down and try to put BOTH armrest down and of course, it wouldn't fucking go down because it was being blocked by the women's FAT. So here I am, sitting in between to MASSIVE ladies, being squeezed. Since there were no armrest to contain their FAT from "spilling" into my "territory", I lost about 1/2 of my seat. Their FAT ASSES were in my seat. Their FAT asses were touching my thighs. I mean c'mom, I'm not complaining about the FAT ladies, but the airline here. I paid full fucking fare for a full fucking seat. They should have moved me to another seat or anyone else in the same predicament. The flight attendant looks at me as if there is no problem... It's my fault though, I didn't complain, I didn't want to make a scene.
Anyways, I got to SFO Misako picked me up on the beemer and we hit J-town in SF. Aha I miss that place. See, I eat a lot of sushi and what not, but what I really like is normal daily japanese food. I had this thick noodle soup with chicken pieces in it. Forgot the name though. It also reminds me of lunches me and Misako had everyday while we worked together. We used to go to "ghetto jap" restaurant everyday for lunch. So it was good to catch up. And the reason it was good, it was because it was like the old days; lunch and gossip/joke/catch up.
After lunch we went around shopping in the J-mall. I bought some j-books; j-cookbook and sake handkbook which rates local sake by prefecture. I also bought some trinkets; a little box with model of Himeji castle, and a little statue of money-cat (maneki neko) which comes with a booklet and a display, and a car freshener with "engrish" written on it. It says; "It will be satisfied with your life. Please have a good time.".
It really feels like Tokyo to some extent. There are lot of japanese people typically dressed in Tokyo fashion, you also see some kids with weird clothes, as if you were in Shibuya. Went to Nijiya Market to buy some strawberry Pocky for my trip back. God I miss Nijiya, too bad they are only in California :(
She dropped me off at SFO 5:30PM and I took the red eye flight back which was plagued with heavy turbulence. Got back to IAD 8:30AM. It was worth it, I think I will do this more often. Timing works perfectly, fly in, have lunch and fly out same day. No carrying baggage or checking bags or looking for a place to stay.
So I want to go back to Tokyo even more, hehe. But I always get pissed when I see the airfare to Tokyo. I can EASILY find flights for $600, but the crapstastic landing fees in Tokyo always raises the prices past $1000. Tokyo Narita charges $8000 per each plane landing, and even funnier, Toronto's Pearson charges $11000. Finally the craptastic airport thinks its good enough to be #1 on the world's most expensive landing fee chart.
Misako said she will be in Tokyo for about 2 weeks due to work in February, so now I'm thinking maybe I can visit both Eri-chan and Misako in one trip. See last time I felt bad that Eri was busy during the day with work and at night, I could be being a burden to her after a workday, you know being host and all. Now Misako said she actually want to hang out at night, so maybe I could work a split schedule. Hehehe
