Claim? What claim?

So I was reading BBC News, and supposedly there is a territorial dispute between Japan and Korea. Now I heard stories about Japan school text books ommiting things like "comfort woman" from text books. And I can understand why, because kids shouldn't know improper things like that, but as long as the governmet acknowledge it did occur.

Now I don't have any animosity towards Japan, because what happened, happened and there is no crying about it.

So basically the island contested is called Dokdo for Koreans and Takeshima for Japanese. These island was acquired during Japanese Imperial expansion and ultimately with the colonization of Korea, but lost after World War II surrender.

Koreans are using pre Korean historical records to dispute Japanese claims, while Japan has some sort of hitorical record, but the Korean record still predates the Japanese records. But the Japanese claims that the Korean historical record is wrong because the island cannot be seen from a nearby Korean island which is not being contested. So on that note, since the island cannot be seen, the historical chart is incorrect. Now I would go for that, but c'mom, the island can BE SEEN. This day and age I expect that any claim to be based on facts, specially things like these that can be easily checked.

So the island cannot be seen? The picture clearly shows it CAN be seen. I just find this "claims" ridiculous.
