Everyday I see something about Obama, I watch his clips on Youtube and this guy seems very shady, not because the guy seems like shady business person, but because he is SO VAGUE. So I go to his website and read the "Issues" section.
As I mentioned on Dana's blog about how his speech in regards to his pastor, seems a bit populist, it also reflect on the "Issues" section. It has a lot of populist fluff catch phrases that I believe that most of average citizen are swept by it. Yet he doesn't provide ANY "comprehensive" course of action, making his platform flaky and vague. If I want to vote for him, I want to know not only what problems he sees with the country, but HOW he intends to fix. I want to know his comprehensive plans so I can critically analyze it. Currently without any sort of strong and comprehensive plan of action from his platform, it hard to say what he is about, and worse, it takes away my ability to make any type of analysis.
These days average Americans are splashed with frivolous stuff such as American Idol, Who's America's Next Top Model and the other crap. While many can enjoy these, but ultimately they are able to differentiate as trash entertainment. The reason this concerns me is that I know people that are so enamored with celebrity/popularity that allows themselves to be influence by such trash. Decades ago TV put women as submissive homemaker servant of their husband and it was an "acceptable" culture. I'm sure if people these days look back, would find it horrific. Reason being is the lack of critical thinking of average citizen. TV programing changed, yet people are unable to break free.
It seems to me that Obama is the popular media darling these days, and populist running mostly on his charismatic persona platform, but ultimately without any substance. It's almost like high school where things revolves a lot about popularity, charisma, appearance, etc...
Ron Paul at least puts forward what he intents to do comprehensively, so I'm able to get critical with his plans. Like for example, some posts I mentioned that it is stupid to go back to gold standard, but thanks to his transparency about this plans, I know he is against fiat money, which I agree. I just don't agree with with his way to back currency with gold. He also wants to eliminate the Fed, which would effectively eliminate the current debt based currency value/fractional banking. On the other hand I can't do the same about Obama, his "plans" are vague with populist touchy feely catchphrase/key word without any substance.
So, what is the big deal about him? I'm not saying he is a bad person that wants to drag America through recession or something, I just don't see what this guy is planning to do. So anyone with critical thinking should be able to see that he lacks a comprehensive plan to be criticized about. So does this mean that average Americans are willfully ignorant? Or lacking critical thinking?
But I'm not to say that Obama is the only one that is vague, its Hilary and McCain too, although not as vague as Obama.
