<----That's right, it's a photo I shot of Pentagon at DCA landing post 9-11.Weekend 1:
So Misha flew in first to Texas, to surprise Dana for her birthday, and I would fly in the day after. The point was, that she would not expect a same kind of surprise on the same weekend. I mean, who would fly in Saturday only to fly out on Sunday morning? So Friday night, I leave work really late, start doing my laundry and packing. By the time I'm done, its already like 2-3AM, so afraid I might lose my really early flight, I decide not to sleep. I make it to the airport on time(5:30AM), and for some odd reason I did not have ANY issues with security or the flight itself, well other than being a really f'king early flight. I wasn't carrying much, just a camera bag and a satchel with one set of clothes. So no bags to check in. Didn't bother about anything on the flight, except to sleep, I needed the sleep for the day, I didn't want to sleep the whole day at Dana's place, which I usually do when I visit her :p. It was a short visit, so I had to maximize my wake up time. Once
I arrive in Dallas, I text message Misha to send in the address. We had planned that we would only work with text message as it would not raise Dana suspicion of an imminent surprise. So Misha text message me the address and I get a cab. When he said it was very close to the airport, he really meant it. The cab driver said I would have to pay a minimum fee because it was too close. haha I arrive at the address and pay the cab. Ok all set, so I start looking for the apartment. Double check the text message, it says apt 1064. I text message Misha telling him that I'm already at the building, just need to find the apartment. I call Dana to wish her a happy birthday and how was the previous night with Misha's surprise visit. She immediately asks why I did not come with Misha. At this point I was thinking maybe she was suspecting something, so I tell her I'm broke so I could not make it. And when I say I'm broke, my friends knows I'M BROKE, so that was a good excuse. I start looking around and around and there is no 1064. They are all 1700's! I asked some residents in the immediate area and they all concurs that at this particular building, all the apartments are 1700's. Check the address again on my phone, and yes I'm at the correct building, but the apartment is nowhere to be found. So I text message again, asking Misha to confirm on the apartment number. He confirms that its 1064. What the hell am I on the twilight zone? There is a HUGE plaque where it confirms the apartment complex name and the building number, though the apartment number is not there. I look around a little more and gave up, I'm going to make a voice call to Misha, because this is ridiculous. So I call him, and and he he would make an excuse to leave Dana's apartment to try to find me in the complex. So he asks where I am, and I explain to him I'm on the river side of the building. Of course he can't find me. He then tells me that I might be in the wrong address. What? I already dismissed the cab like 30 minutes ago. Then he finds me. I was about 3 buildings away. Supposedly the number 8 on the paper looked like a number 6, so Misha text messaged me the wrong building number. Even funnier that this was the fact that Misha did not know how to get back to the apartment?! "Dude, you just came out from Dana's apartment, how can you not know how to get back?" So we spend a good 10 minutes until we find the place. From a certain distance I saw a New Zealand flag by a door, which I immediately said "That's Dana's apartment.". Misha was reluctant to take my word for it, but when I told him it had a New Zealand's flag, he agreed with me. So I tell Misha to walk in first, and in about 5 minutes later I would walk in. Should have seen Dana's face, hahah. So cute! She was like, who the fuck can this be?
Dana was sick, so we spend most of the day watching DVD's produced by Dana and Paul. Then we all go out for lunch at Olive Garden. Luis had planned a surprise party for Dana later that night, but because Dana was sick, he decided to reveal just so she can decide if she is up for it. She felt better that night so we went to Luis party where Dana's friends from Texas were waiting. I must admit that I was a bit "intimidated" at first because all the people at the party were well into their mid 30's with PHDs and professors. That all melted away, because they are cool people. The made the effort to make us, "the outsiders" integrated to the group. Plus, they are all kids at heart. They get wasted and talk crap like the best of us. The same thing we do here, they do over there. Except they do in house parties, because it's not good for a student to find their professors wasted in a club. hahah. There was one friend of Dana called Ana that was really fun. She is a riot, no really. Plus she spoke Portuguese, because she is from Portugal, but it wasn't the cool Brazilian Portuguese. We got back to Dana's apartment around 3AM, I decide not to sleep, because I had to wake up in 3 hours for my flight. So I start watching TV, but I pass out momentarily, so I turn of the TV and sleep. Dana wakes me up, then I wake up Misha because I had to get the car keys from him. He hands me the keys and says "Dana, where is Paul's room?". Me and Dana were like, what in the hell is he talking about? See, Paul was away for that night, so Misha was sleeping at Paul's room, and he had just come out from Paul's room, he was standing right in front of the door. Dana drops me off at the airport, and catch the flight. I try to take some photos from the plane(I always do this), but the flight attendant was a total bitch. He told me I could not take photos and what kind of photos I've taken so far. Dude, its not like anyone wants to bomb Dallas airport. I could understand telling me not to take photos at landing in DC, but not during takeoff at Dallas. I have taken photos at DC landings before without a hitch post 9-11. So I just slept the whole flight. Once we land the flight attendant asks me if I had taken some good photos. I tell him the shut the fuck up.
Although, it was extremely hectic for me, it was all worth it, and I can say "Right back at ya, Dana!" (for your surprising me the other week), BANG BANG! "Happy dance"
So there will be an intermission somewhere this week, then I'll post in details about this weekend.
Behave kids!
PS: Oh yeah I saw the movie Crash. You know me, being racially insensitive, making fun of every racial stereotype out there, this movie was funny at times.
